Together, my wife Lynn and I began the journey of making a life-long dream of an avid largemouth bass fisherman come true. In December 2006 this dream became a reality when we purchased The Lake Mateos Bass Lodge on Lake Mateos and Campo Buena on Lake Huites. I’ve been fishing forever, and when the opportunity presented itself to purchase both fantastic lodges on two of the premier largemouth bass fishing lakes in the world, we jumped at it!   Well, I jumped, and Lynn is as supportive as a non-fishing spouse can be. We’re both Floridians and Lynn loves the water too. She just likes hers crystal clear and heated for swimming. I myself am a lifetime avid bass fisherman, but both of us will settle for nothing less than the best bass fishing experience we can provide.

Lake Mateos Bass Lodge

Lake Mateos is one of the most beautiful lakes in Mexico.  It is surrounded by the enchanting cascading effect of the Western Sierra Madres Mountains.  This beautiful lake attracts the seasonal water fowl by the thousands and is a magnificent body of clear mountain water fed by the Humaya River.  It’s the 9th largest freshwater lake in Mexico at 55,000 acres and up to 230 feet in depth.  It’s filled with some of the most aggressive Florida strain bass in the world.  Mexico’s federal freshwater fish hatchery is situated below the dam and infuses the lake with “new blood” regularly, ensuring a long life for the fishery.  Lake Mateos has an abundant supply of tilapia, majorra and shad which keeps the largemouth Florida bass in hog heaven.

Your Fishing Vacation

Upon arrival at Culiacan International Airport (CUL) you’ll be met at the arrival gate by our English-speaking representative, who will shuttle you to the lodge.  Your package includes round-trip transportation to and from Culiacan and is a one hour drive on paved roads.  There is no “trip from hell” ride up the mountain.

The lodge itself is located on a bluff overlooking the Humaya River; accommodations are air conditioned with daily maid service and private baths.  Your first evening you’ll relax and enjoy a fantastic meal while discussing the next day’s fishing.  You will also select your Shakespeare or Pflueger rods from a large selection.  Sunrise comes early here, you will enjoy a delicious American breakfast before joining our professional and experienced native staff and guides who will have you on the water by safe daylight.

Around 11 a.m. you’ll return to the lodge for a nourishing lunch and quiet and enjoyable siesta of 1 to 2 hours (as you choose).  Around 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. you’ll l return to the lake for a great afternoon of fishing.  We fish until dark, however, if you wish to return earlier just let the staff know in advance and you can come back at a time of your choosing.  That evening upon returning to the lodge you will be greeted with freshly made margaritas and nachos followed by a sumptuous dinner where you can reflect on the days catch while planning your strategy for tomorrow.
